OHFAR Software is a tablet-optimized web application built to support dentists during children’s oral health screenings. Designed specifically for clinical use in real screening environments, the platform digitizes appointment scheduling, patient management, treatment planning, and clinical documentation, with a strong focus on child-specific dental workflows. The system plays a critical role in OHFAR’s mission to improve children’s oral health and we're proud to continue being part of that journey.

1

Context

Following our successful collaboration on the OHFAR website, we were trusted with the development of OHFAR Software which would be directly used by dentists in the field. Unlike a general healthcare system, this platform needed to address the unique requirements of pediatric dentistry, including guardian management, age-appropriate dental charting and more.

The application was designed to be highly optimized for tablet use, as dentists would rely on it during live screenings with children. The goal was to replace manual and fragmented processes with an intuitive and user-friendly system.

Challenge

The most significant challenge of the project was translating complex medical logic into a clear technical solution. Pediatric dental screening involved numerous clinical nuances, regulatory considerations, and workflow dependencies that needed to be reflected correctly in both UX and system behavior. Designing an interface that dentists could use quickly and confidently, often in high-volume screening environments required deep understanding and constant validation.

From a technical perspective, one of the most complex components was the dental chart. Each tooth needed to be interactive, support multiple states, display clinical data, and adapt to different age groups. The UI/UX designer created multiple component variations to account for these use cases, and the frontend developer implemented them with precision to ensure both flexibility and performance.

Solution

We designed OHFAR Software as a structured, clinician-first system that mirrors real dental screening workflows. The platform supports secure authentication, detailed patient and guardian management, appointment scheduling, and comprehensive clinical documentation.

Special attention was given to child-specific features such as baby/adult teeth visualization, guardian authorization, and long-term oral health tracking. The dental chart allows dentists to interact with each tooth individually, attach diagnoses, treatment plans, x-rays, and status indicators, all while maintaining visual clarity through color coding and structured notes.

The system also includes screening functionality and analytics, enabling OHFAR to track screening volume and patient age distribution, generate structured reports, and share them with guardians via email.

Development Process

The project was developed by a dedicated team consisting of a UI/UX designer, a Front-end Developer, a Back-end Developer, and a Project Manager.

Throughout the project, our Project Manager played a key role in coordinating internal development and external communication with the OHFAR team. A significant effort was dedicated to understanding medical requirements and translating them into technical and UX decisions. While early stages involved weekly alignment meetings, the process later evolved into near-daily syncs to support rapid iteration.

Key features implemented during development included secure user authentication, calendar-based appointment scheduling, patient and guardian management, an interactive dental chart tailored for children, structured medical and oral health histories, screening data capture, visual statistics, and report generation with export and email functionality. All features were designed with tablet usability and in-clinic efficiency as top priorities.

Result

OHFAR Software was first used publicly during the Armenian International Healthcare Expo. The system was actively used during the event, validating its usability in live conditions.

The platform is now fully functional in its dentist-facing version, supporting screenings, clinical documentation, and reporting. The admin panel is already designed and planned for development; it will allow admins to manage dentists, review system logs, and access detailed statistics.
